It’s a cool anime spin to some Star Wars lore, plus some creative liberties on some classic pre-New Hope antics

Love how this fits into the established timeline。 Very clever。 Thane and Ciena are so we'll drawn and so easy to want to root for despite being a part of the Empire。 Love how this fits into the established timeline。 Very clever。 Thane and Ciena are so we'll drawn and so easy to want to root for despite being a part of the Empire。 。。。more

In the 90s movie Clerks, there is a scene where they talk about regular people on the death star, and we sort of get that here。The dialogue is very Y&A , but if you are an adult reader like myself and can get past that, this is one of the best extended universe stories ever。 Its a fast read and its nice to show the motivation behind some kids wanting to join the empire。 I really enjoy the parts where we get a mangafied (is that a word) version of scenes in the movies, juxtaposed with t where the In the 90s movie Clerks, there is a scene where they talk about regular people on the death star, and we sort of get that here。The dialogue is very Y&A , but if you are an adult reader like myself and can get past that, this is one of the best extended universe stories ever。 Its a fast read and its nice to show the motivation behind some kids wanting to join the empire。 I really enjoy the parts where we get a mangafied (is that a word) version of scenes in the movies, juxtaposed with t where the main characters in Lost Stars were during those scenes。Pretty pumped about the next few volumes!!!! 。。。more

Lost Stars is my favorite Star Wars novel and it was a lot of fun revisiting that story in this form。 The art is great and I had a lot of the same emotions I had while reading the novel。 I do think that this adaptation lost a lot of character depth that was present in the novel (particularly Ciena) which prevented me from rating these higher。

I suggest people read this book if you like manga。 The book is really good when Celia turned out to be on the evil side instead of the good side。 That was suspenful because you dont know if she is gonna attack the good side or not。 Then, Her and her got assigned a mission on the Death Star which is really cool。 I really suggest this to manga readers。

This is probably the best Valentine’s gift I’ve ever gotten。 (Because I picked it out for myself) Manga makes everything better, I can’t imagine loving Lost Stars the book as much as I love this。 Yes, I will definitely be collecting these volumes。 Keep the manga coming is all I’m saying。 Adapt everything Star Wars into manga form。 Starting with the Ahsoka novel, because we all need that in our lives。

Rebel Thane Kyrell finds himself a betrayer to the Empire and caught up in the Rebellion。  Despite his current situation, Thane remembers growing up on Jelucan and befriending Ciena Ree。  Both Ciena and Thane dreamed of joining the Empire and found their dreams were attainable…but as Ciena found herself more drawn to the Empire, Thane began to question the Empire’s goals…and their friendship would never be the same。Written and illustrated by Yusaku Komiyama, Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1 is a Rebel Thane Kyrell finds himself a betrayer to the Empire and caught up in the Rebellion。  Despite his current situation, Thane remembers growing up on Jelucan and befriending Ciena Ree。  Both Ciena and Thane dreamed of joining the Empire and found their dreams were attainable…but as Ciena found herself more drawn to the Empire, Thane began to question the Empire’s goals…and their friendship would never be the same。Written and illustrated by Yusaku Komiyama, Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1 is a Yen Press manga Star Wars story。  The manga is an adaptation of Claudia Gray’s 2015 Disney Lucasfilm Press young adult novel Star Wars:  Lost Stars。I like Star Wars books, but with so much to read, I generally can’t keep up with Star Wars books。  The interest doesn’t outweigh the time commitment。  On the surface, Gray’s Star Wars:  Lost Stars seems interesting, but I probably was never going to read it…Yusaka Komiyama’s telling of the story provides an easy, slick replacement。The story is essentially a star-crossed lovers story…literally in the stars。  Thane and Ciena come from different classes in the same planet that aren’t supposed to interact, but they find a fast friendship with their mutual love of flight and space。  The present day story is set at a time where Thane has betrayed the Empire and in turn betrayed Ciena, but a majority of this volume is a flashback of what came before。While it could have been easy to tell the story of two kids choosing different, divergent paths, the manga manages to start to explore the why instead of just the how。  While Thane always found acceptance both on Jelucan, and in the Empire, Ciena was always an outsider。  Star Wars generally is very liberal on acceptance of women, but class and racism in Star Wars has been an issue before (like the feuding Gungans and humans on Naboo in Star Wars—Episode 1:  The Phantom Menace)。  The Empire provides Ciena where she is accepted and approved of…Grand Moff Tarkin takes a special interest in her and that alone could inspire someone to fall in line with the Empire’s goals。Thane is painted as “kind” and not seeing race。  When the Empire intentionally creates a wedge between Thane and Ciena to force their loyalty to the Empire he starts to question who he is working for, and the destruction of the peaceful planet of Alderaan almost completely seals deal。  He comes from the same planet as Ciena but not the same background。Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1 is a good start to the series。  Yusaku Komiyama’s adaptation is easy to read and flows nicely while the art also lends itself to the story。  This volume establishes the groundwork for the next volume which hopefully will work in more “present day” with the story of how Thane defected to the Rebels…and probably attempted to recruit Ciena to the cause。  I look forward to seeing how it plays out。  Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1 is followed by Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 2。 。。。more

The Star Wars Series (excluding the newest films -_-) has always had a very special place in my life, and in my heart。 This manga encapsulates a beautiful story。 It brings up important topics from discrimination between classes and the difficulties of choosing sides and how it can destroy friendships and families。 It also brought back the classic Star Wars characters in depictions that honor the characters。 To conclude, I highly suggest checking out this manga。

I really didn’t read the summary going in so I was pleasantly surprised to find this is a story about two characters during the original Star Wars trilogy。 This first volume was really good! I like the set up and I’m excited to read the other two。Edit: finished the series。 It was good!! It’s complicated and conflicted and shows how differently people deal with trauma。 I hope there’s more though。

3。5 stars I think the format of Manga for this didn't really work out super well which is highly disappointing for me! I could see that I will come to love these characters, as I'm already invested in them and whats going on in their lives but I feel like the story didn't translate super well to this format。 Overall, I loved the characters and the setting of course, but I wasn't the biggest fan of it as a manga。 3。5 stars I think the format of Manga for this didn't really work out super well which is highly disappointing for me! Much more of a romance than I expected。 Although this romance is quite good it is overdone for my liking。 Setting and characterization are done very well when focused on。 To me this seems slow, but I can see people really enjoying it。

This is the first Star Wars manga I read and it surpassed my expectations。 I'm not a hardcore fan by any means but had no problem following the storyline and understanding the universe。The plot is very juvenile, which may not be for everyone。 We follow the friendship of two kids that grow up in a struggling planet under the control of the Empire and their divergent paths after the rebellion begins。 In a way it felt like this is what that terrible Han Solo movie tried to be but couldn't。 The art This is the first Star Wars manga I read and it surpassed my expectations。 I'm not a hardcore fan by any means but had no problem following the storyline and understanding the universe。The plot is very juvenile, which may not be for everyone。 We follow the friendship of two kids that grow up in a struggling planet under the control of the Empire and their divergent paths after the rebellion begins。 In a way it felt like this is what that terrible Han Solo movie tried to be but couldn't。 The art was great, really enjoyed seeing familiar faces from the original movies in manga style。 The action scenes felt dynamic, something that doesn't always translate in manga。I learned from other reviews that this is based on a novel。 I don't doubt their word about it being superior (I remember reading Death Troopers years ago and it was great), but as someone that isn't a fan and who has a huge to-read list, I'd rather stick to the manga version than invest the time in the novel。Very friendly to those that are not Star Wars fans。 A good gift for teenagers and perhaps a way to invite them to transition to write stories。 Bottom line, overall pleased with this reading experience。 。。。more
